Winfield Scott (1786-1866) was a U.S. Army General, who, throughout his 47-year career, was considered the best commander of his time and a true national hero. He was one of the very few American officers who served as a general in three major wars; The War of 1812, The Mexican-American War, and the early days of The American Civil War. He is buried at West Point Cemetery.
