About The Harriet Tubman Room

This charming room at our Taneytown hotel is named after Harriet Tubman. Tubman was born into slavery in Maryland and escaped to freedom in the North in 1849 to become the most famous “conductor” on the Underground Railroad. Tubman risked her life to lead hundreds of family members and other slaves from the plantation system to freedom on this elaborate secret network of safe houses. She also helped the Union Army during the Civil War, working as a spy among other roles.

The room features a king feather bed, double whirlpool tub, and a flat-panel TV for leisure. Guests can also enjoy the Birnie House’s common areas, including the spacious living and dining areas, as well as the tranquil patio adjacent to these spaces, enriching your stay with moments of relaxation and social interaction.
