Regarded as one of America's greatest heroes, Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865), 16th U.S. President, led the Union Army to victory in the Civil War and emancipated the South's African-American slaves. The Gettysburg Address was his most famous speech. Besides being an eloquent diplomat, he was also an accomplished wrestler. His life embodied the human struggle to rise from humble beginnings and adversity to high achievement.
