The Taney Suite

Named for Roger Brooke Taney (1777-1864), a well-respected attorney appointed 5th Chief Justice to the U.S. Supreme Court and most famous for the Dred Scott Decision. He is related to Raphael Taney, founder of Taneytown in 1754, who hailed from St. Mary's County, Maryland. He married Francis Scott Key's sister in 1806 and they had seven children.

The Chamberlain Suite

Joshua Chamberlain, Civil War Union General from Maine, won the Medal of Honor. Considered a highly cultured college professor turned Army officer, he was known as the "Lion of Little Round Top" and was famous for convincing deserters to join him and for ordering a bayonet charge. He later went on to become president of Bowdoin College.

The Buford Room

General John Buford, Calvary commander at the Battle of Gettysburg, held off Confederates outside of Gettysburg, allowing time for Union troops to line up. President Lincoln promoted him to Major General on his deathbed, shortly after the war.
