Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 1999

The 1999 Silver Oak Alexander Valley is a classic, rich Cabernet Sauvignon with a dark, ruby color and a complex nose of cassis, blueberries, nutmeg, chocolate and sandalwood. It is a luscious and full-bodied on the palate and has a long, fruit-laden finish reminiscent of licorice.

This featured wine will be available to dinner guests by the glass throughout the month of March while supplies last.

On February 11th, we were joined by Brian Terrizzi, winemaker of Giornata Cellars for a spectacular wine dinner event. Giornata started with the dream of creating wines from Italian grapes grown in California with the influence and technique of Italian winemaking. Through this style their wines favor balance and subtlety rather than the intensity and extraction characteristic of Californian wines.

Brian's enthusiasm for winemaking is shown not only in his involvement in Giornata, but also in the creation of Broadside, a central coast Californian producer.

Featured wines are available for dinner guests by the glass or by outside purchase by the bottle. This month's featured wine, Antinori Guado al Tasso 2004 is available for $25/glass or $100/bottle while supplies last.

50% Cabernet | 40% Merlot | 10% Syrah 

Guado al Tasso, meaning literally "Badger's Ford", takes its name from a common sight at the estate of Tenuta Guado al Tasso, Bolgheri, where it is produced. The vineyard is at an elevation between 44 and 58 metres (145 and 190 feet) above sea-level on stony, slightly calcareous soils. Tenuta Guado al Tasso is located 60 miles southwest of Florence, near the medieval village of Bolgheri, in an area known as the Maremma. The 900 hectares (2,223 acres) estate stretches up from the shore of the Tyrrhenian Sea to the hills, and aside from extensive vineyards, also grows wheat, corn, sunflowers, tomatoes and olive trees. Guado al Tasso was first produced in 1990; the successive vintages are 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997. All the vintages have been produced in limited quantities.

Ruby red in color. Fruity, with hints of toast, coffee and dark chocolate. Finely structured and complex; balanced, with soft tannins and a lingering finish. Displays unmistakable varietal flavor while retaining strong regional character.

North Valley Wine Tasting | Meet the Winemaker Event

On Wednesday, February 3rd, Antrim 1844 was honored with a visit from James Cahill, the partner and winemaker for Soter's prestigious North Valley. 

This rare wine tasting featured a selection of North Valley wines best known for its locale in Oregon's most recognized appellation for cool climate varietals, Willamette Valley. It is in the Northern part of this region where the finest vineyards are found - an epicenter referred to as North Valley. From within this region of the rolling hillsides and diverse soils, the North Valley Vineyards Partners create three tiers of exceptional wines: "Classics," "Origins," and "Reserves." 

Guests began the evening gathered in the warmth of the Mansion's twin Drawing Rooms with a welcome and opening remarks from Richard and Cahill. 

Guests enjoyed a delightful array of hors d'oeuvres while tasting favorites of North Valley's reds and whites, all the while enjoying the captivating passion James shared for his love of winemaking. 

With a shared passion for wine, a visit to the wine cellar with Antrim's owner, Richard Mollett and James Cahill developed into tales of fascinating finds and unique wine experiences.
